Born in 1935, Professor Someshwara dedicated his life to the advancement of Tulu language and literature, alongside extensive research on Yakshagana, Tulu folk traditions, and Bhootharadhane. Despite Malayalam being his native tongue, he displayed profound fluency in both Kannada and Tulu.

Having completed his high school education at Anandashrama and obtaining a degree from St. Aloysius College, Professor Someshwara was mentored by Sediyapu Krishna Bhat. Following his MA, he commenced his teaching career at St. Aloysius College in 1958. Later, he contributed his expertise to St. Philomena and Vivekananda Colleges in Puttur, culminating in his retirement as the head of the Kannada Department from the latter institution in 1993. Additionally, he served as a visiting professor in the Kannada Department of Mangalore University, with his works serving as focal points for numerous doctoral research studies.

Professor Someshwara’s legacy is marked by three seminal volumes encompassing Tulu paddanas, Tulu plays, and Yakshagana prasangas, which are regarded as his paramount contributions to literature. Notably, he authored a Malayalam-Kannada dictionary and undertook the ambitious task of translating the Finnish national oral epic, “Kalevala,” into Tulu.
