Mangalore is a unique city in multiple ways. It is called by nine names in nine different languages. It has offered India and the world outstanding citizens in different walks of life. Some of these women and men have stood out and made a mark. There is scope to offer short life sketches of hundreds of these individuals as a source of inspiration to Mangaloreans and anyone else who will benefit from reading them. There is no single place where profiles of these people maybe found. Hence, this portal aims to serve a single purpose of profiling at least one Mangalorean of eminence every working day over the next few years.
mangalorepeople.com is an online platform to celebrate the community and people from Mangalore and of Mangalorean origin. This portal will feature actors, business personalities, politicians, and educationists.
The objective of this initiative is to feature profiles of achievers who are either born in Mangalore or whose parents or grandparents were from the undivided Dakshina Kannada district comprising what is now Udupi and Mangalore. These will include:
- Movie celebrities
- Sports personalities
- Achievers from Art & Culture
- Business leaders
- Corporate professionals
- Social workers
- Academicians
This will not be a news portal or track birth, death and marriages.
In the first year we will only profile people who are alive. However, from the second year we could reserve the fourth week of each month to profile people who have passed on as well.
The content director will be the final authority on whom to profile under the Featured section
Currently, it is owned by February Networks and The Promise Foundation. Sarika Chavan and Amith Prabhu are the co-creators of this initiative.
