Ratna Verman Shetty, also known as R. Verman, was an accomplished Indian art director hailing from Mangalore. He received his education at the prestigious J. J. School of Art in Mumbai.

Following his academic journey, he ventured into the world of publicity design and cine advertising, establishing his own company known as ‘Takshila.’

During this period, he served as a creative force for major clients such as Navketan films and contributed his artistic touch to the production of iconic films like “Jewel Thief” and “Guide.”

While excelling as a publicity designer, Verman’s fascination with art direction grew. He honed his skills by working as an assistant to the renowned art director Sudhendu Roy for several years, eventually emerging as a seasoned art director in his own right.

Subsequently, Verman went on to make his mark in the industry, contributing his artistic expertise to over 350 films. His remarkable talent earned him the prestigious Filmfare award for best art direction twice, for his exceptional work in the films “Hum” in 1992 and “Angaar” in 1993.
