Anil Hegde, recently elected uncontested to the Rajya Sabha as a JD(U) candidate in the Bihar bypolls, has strong ties to the coastal region. Hailing from Kundapur, he is a devoted follower of former defense minister George Fernandes. Anil has a history of service to the Janata Dal during the era of Ramakrishna Hegde and as Secretary to George Fernandes, actively participating in various movements and agitations led by the latter.

With a decade-long association with the JD(U) Chief and current Bihar Chief Minister, Anil Hegde presently holds the position of State Vice President within the JD(U). Originally from Salvadi in Kundapur, he received his early education in Bidkalkatte and graduated from the Government College in Mangaluru. Anil, a bachelor, has established the JD(U) office in Bihar as his home and is recognized for his humility and integrity.

Having been based in Bihar for over 12 years, Hegde resides in the JD(U)’s Patna office. He has served as the party’s national returning officer, overseeing organizational elections and membership drives, among other responsibilities. Despite belonging to a family involved in horticulture and law, Anil Hegde was early drawn to socialist politics. He maintains a simple lifestyle, wearing only sandals and hand-woven khadi clothes, akin to his mentor Fernandes.
